Seal Release Party

So I got to witness something pretty cool today. My fiance Crystal and I were invited to attend a seal release. I have some pictures here. These seals were rehabilitated at Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre. Each of the seals was adopted by a family who got to release them and give them a new name. It was a very class act.

It took place in Lions Bay. There were about 30 people in attendance. There were some appetizers and some sparkling wine. Once the guests of honour arrived they were given half an hour to relax. Once they woke up from their nap the carriers were removed from the van and placed on the boat launch. Each adoptive family was called up in turn to release there seal. Once the carrier was opened the seals were allowed to get there bearings and then they each headed for the water.

It was quite a sight to see four plump healthy seals released back to the wild.
